Saturday, July 23 2010 - 11:00am
The Washington County Historical Society will again present a 1860 vintage base ball exhibition during Lumberjack Days at the Old Athletic Field [corner of Orleans and Sixth Avenue] on Saturday July 23rd.
The matches are played by 1860 rules of base ball [two words back then] and uniforms of that era are worn. Some interesting rules include the batter [called the striker] is out if the ball is caught on the fly or first bounce; there is no sliding, no swearing, and no sweating -- especially if ladies are present.
Come and enjoy the afternoon of vintage base ball and see how the game was meant to be played.
